Thinking about trees, the first image that comes to our mind is a massive tree standing all alone in extreme heat, rain and winter. It provides us with various benefits like a shadow in high temperatures, delicious fruits, sometimes with water and most important oxygen without which we cannot even think of life. Life is impossible on Earth without trees. Trees are a blessing of nature to animal habitat. Trees are the most precious gift given to us and we are blessed to have this gift, but unfortunately, most of us are not.
There are a
lot of debates on which is the oldest tree in the ecosystem? Some say that it is
the Great Basin Bristlecone Pine in California on the other side they say it is
the Great Banyan Tree in India. This debate will never end. Trees have a
major contribution to biodiversity. Trees purify the air by absorbing the
Carbon Dioxide from the atmosphere and after performing photosynthesis release
back the oxygen into the atmosphere. Trees control climate change by soaking
up the CO2 which cools down the temperature. Trees provide the soil
with immense fertility by converting CO2 to organic matter which is
mixed up with soil and eventually increases the soil. They also provide shelter
to the soil and protect the excessive soil erosion from wind and rain.
Surprisingly the fertility of the soil is used by us to grow the crops.
Trees have a crucial role in Habitat Preservation. Trees provide
shelter to animals like sloths, geckos, monkeys, reptiles like snakes and
lizards, and birds like sparrows, crows, and woodpeckers, most of the birds live on trees.
Not only do birds or animals seek shelter under trees but trees provide us shelter too by sacrificing themselves to build our houses. There is a
difference between wildlife and us in that wildlife gives back to nature by providing
the humus to the soil by their excretion on the other side we humans give nothing
back to trees for providing us with well-nourishing resources what we give in
return to them is Deforestation.
Deforestation is
a curse to nature that is given by us. It is the clearing of the forest land
or trees on purpose. Deforestation is
responsible for the occurrence of many problems to us. According to the reports in
the past 10 years, the average earth temperature has increased by 30 C.
The fertility of the soil is reducing because there are no trees to protect them. Constant
forest fires, floods and many more natural calamities are occurring. These are
the signs that we should stop.
We
humans are the ones who make papers by cutting trees and writing on them “SAVE
TREES”. And it’s a shame to say that I am one of them. WE NEED TO WAKE UP!
